Outline Biography

Hannah Crawford is a Consultant Speech & Language Therapist working for Tees, Esk & Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust and specialises in dysphagia (eating & drinking difficulties) in adults with learning disabilities. She has provided input through a variety of teams including a therapy team for ALD and a therapy team for dual diagnosis of ALD and mental health difficulties, and her current post is in Middlesbrough. She is a professional advisor for the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists and sits on their Professional Development and Standards Board. She is currently leading on a project on the development of dysphagia guidelines for Speech & Language therapists across the career span.

Hannah has held various teaching engagements in dysphagia, at Newcastle University to undergraduate and post-graduate students, and has guest lectured at the University of Uppsala, in Sweden. She has co-facilitated on an ALD post-basic module organised by the SLT department in Sunderland and is the course leader for the ‘Advancing Dysphagia Practice’ Seminars.

Hannah has successfully achieved the Advanced Clinical MSc in Swallowing at Newcastle University. Her research interests include carer compliance and ethics. She is currently studying for a PhD at the University of Edinburgh, where she will investigate the experiences of family carers of adults with profound and multiple disabilities and dysphagia. She is AHP lead for research in her trust, and chair of the Northern SLT Research SIG.
